Ok, well, as some of you may know, I am going to Europe for a year next year. I am semi in charge off the electronics/entertainment systems of our quasi-custom vehicle. also, we will have satelite internet, so it'll be pretty cool.

anyway, onto the question (and more info)

ok, so, right now, i dont have any game stations, only my comp, and my dad is pretty anti-gaming. i want some advice on ways to convince him that a Xbox 360 is a worthy investment. anything will do, pros of getting a 360, educational things that i can do with it, positive aspects of gaming. negotiations so that i dont "abuse" it (he loves that phrase). even deals so that i can get it ( i would like to avoid, cause hes like deal man, and i never get anything).

so far i have come up with the following
  • buy it with my own money (maybe split 50-50) and games and accessories will come from me.

it can be used as a DVD player/entertainment hub.

it improves vital reflexes, such as the trigger-finger-twitch :D
and ive done alot of research on it also.

this is the proposal to prevent "abuse" *sigh*
  • •What will regulate my use/abuse of 360
    • Only allowed on weekends or after all of homework is done.
•Not allowed to use in the week leading up to a test.
•Have to physically show you completed homework to be allowed to play.
•If caught using when not supposed to be using can be banned for up to10 days.
•Only allowed to use for two hours on week days and only allowed to use for 2-hour sections divided by 30-45 min breaks away from computer.
•If asked to stop I have 10 min to get to the nearest checkpoint or finish a battle.
•Cannot video game for more than 4 hours on weekends, and cannot stay up past 11 on weekends with friends over.
    • I will have to pay for all games myself.
•I am allowed a maximum of twenty-dollar loan for a game at a time.
    • I will pay for Xbox live myself.
what do you think?

P.S. like my sexy listing?

Promote it as a positive outlet for your teenage angst, better to assault pixellated adversaries than your real life peers ;)

And your dad lets you make cannons?! wow..
I can see paying for games and stuff yourself, and getting your homework done before playing, but if you pay for you own stuff I think you should be allowed more freedom with it.

You will probably get more leeway(is that how you spell that?) if you take it easy with the hours at first. Most importantly show him that it isnt affecting your social life/sleep habits/anything else in your daily routein, (even if it is :) ).

Maybe let him play 2 minutes of Gears of War... then he will be hooked for sure  (no really, greatest game ever).

Anyways...

As you probably already know, its going to be very hard to convince your dad to let you get the Xbox 360. You can try to tell him the educational value and such, but I doubt that it really makes a big difference. What you really need to prove to him is that you will not abuse your playing time, and will only use sparingly, like perhaps maybe 1 hour a day, at least for the first month or so when you receive it. If you can do that, thats crazy good self control (I couldn't; I used three sets of AA batteries for the wireless control in the first month :D  ).

I actually got my 360 taken away a while ago (four months; only had it for a month before it was taken away) due to some stupid reason that my dad made up because he was really really angry at the time. I had forgotten that I had an appointment, and only remembered at the last second. I got there on time, but he said that he was angry because I "had wasted his whole afternoon". He is really irrational when he is angry. Luckily, I'll be getting it back after finals (he forgot about it after two weeks of taking it away, so I was just stuck without one... I thought he would tell me when I could have it back; I was wrong  )

You can try and be philosophical, life is a waste of time in itself, whether you fritter it away playing xbox or manage to cure cancer, you're going to die anyway so what is the point of anything?

Wow, that sucks. My dad is obsessed with gaming...
Right now I have a 360, an XBOX, a Gamecube, a Wii, a PS2, and a N64 (old, but awesome). If you want to convince him to let you get a 360, just tell him all the good things about it:

Wireless controllers and headset. No wires=No mess
Amazing graphics for almost all games.
One of, if not THE largest game selections out there.
It's pretty cheap
And, Live is cheap!

This was the best system I've ever bought!

EDIT: By the way, why are you going to europe for a year?

the ps3 has a bigger game selection and online is free plus it already has a blue ray drive unlike the 360 that doesnt come with a hd drive when you add all the shit you need to bu with a 360 to make it compare to a ps3 the 360 costs MORE than a ps3

Kenny, I don't know what world you're living in, but in this one there's definately WAY more games for the 360 than the PS3. And PS3 online sucks balls. Oh, and why would you need a blu-ray drive on a console? You don't.

yeah, it is good, but Halo 3 will give it a run for its money. Halo is a good sit-down-and-kick-ass type game. man i love it....ive played the beta...

thats the way one of my friends is, he has almost every game station, and his parents dont complain that much, but he has strict rules.

also, im going to europe cause my dad wants to. i dunno, but it should be fun. ive always wanted a 360, and it will greatly decrease boredom time while driving and what-not.

as a last resort, i may end up going to boarding school when we get back (yesss. and they let you have cannons) so ill buy a 360 and use it there.
