Be careful about pushing it too far.
I've experienced that these type of pumps can go to extreme pressures with little effort.
The pressure can easily exceed the limits of the materials used.

In my case, the checkvalve blew at about 1150 psi and launched the pumphandle at my face.
My upper jaw cracked loose from the rest of my face wich healed by itself BTW, ..
..one tooth chipped and the gums were stripped off my 4 front teeth. My upper lip was minced meat on the inside and the nut holding the pumphandle on cut into my cheek.
That startled me a bit...

I'm building a new one soon.. :D

anyway, screw on fittings are the way to go.

Thanks for the warning Brian. I don't plan on going much over 400 psi. Did the check valve o-ring blow, or did the washer fold or something?? I can see the problem of the only thing between me and all that air is a little oring. Glad to hear you came out without being terribly disfigured! Btw, what broke in your jaw? I shattered my mandibular condyle racing BMX when I was young, never hurt once but milkshakes still gross me out.

Who says I'm not?

The piston-thingy in the checkvalve was made of plastic...it just got pushed through.
I could have known...i guess I needed the reminder..

Anyway....I...kinda...didn't see a doctor..
Just pushed the gums down each day untill they were back where they belonged :D
My upper lip healed up really fast and I didn't bite into anything hard for a while...
One day I could feel the section of bone under my nose, holding my front teeth..stopped wobbling..
Voilá.

Did that and an apple a day...
