new idea?

what if you put a burst disk after a sprinkler? would this have performance gains?

I could see gains if the burst disc was rated to within a couple of psi lower than what you are charging your gun with, however are the gains suffiencent enough to warrant the hassle of changing a disc after every shot- probably not.

I have done this. And while performance increase might be debatable, it makes it louder and cooler.

It makes it louder and thats really it. Burst disks are use in combustions to counter act bad c:b ratios. On a pneumatic there is absolutely no reason to do it.

Lol, I already started a thread on this about a week or two ago. I haven't gotten any chances to test out the different variables though.

Well since there a consistent pressure in the chamber i see no use.

This will have virtually no noticeable performance gain, however, it will make it louder (if the right disc is chosen). It works great for cartridges that contain the burst disc so all you have to do is change the cartridge.

My motivation for doing it was to compensate for valve opening time...

Yes, only suitable for slow opening valves though. (there would be an advantage if a ball valve was being used)

Initially, that's what I thought, too, thinking that performance would be gained. However, I did not notice anything other than being louder (which is ALWAYS cool :D ). To compensate for having to change the disc, well that's were the cartridges come into play.

it could work for short barrels with a slow opening valve, you need to have the valve then quite alot of dead space then the burst disc i think.

In my book louder -> air coming out of the barrel faster -> more power.

Agreed..but by how much. Like I said, I couldn't notice any additional power (but I didn't chrono it either). Maybe the noise was coming from the breaking of the disc.
