New Epoxy Piston.

I'm going to give my MR. Wilson Cannon a workout this summer so I have replaced the piston and given the whole gun a clean.

I used a Piston moulded from Hot Glue gun sticks in my last piston which worked well,but it was heavy,to large and it looked like sin!So I replaced it with a Epoxy piston.The new piston is 20mm shorter and weighs 35grams less so I should get an increase in performance.

I also plan to make the pilot volume as small as possible by using foam swimming poles,you no those long floaty things.Anyway as they have a hollow center the air can pilot easily through it and also it is going to be a bumper for the piston,does anyone see any problems with this set up?

Serious though the piston looks awesome and should work a treat, when are you testing it out?

Pepper,because of the colour.Maybe when I get another I'll name it something related to Spudguns,no I WILL name it with some relation to spudguns.

I think the piston looks pretty good aswell much better then the hot glue one.

Well what can I say,Epoxy is useful in building components and it worked a treat for me the first time,but I did use about 4 tubes of epoxy.So it's not the most cost effective but time will tell if it works aswell as it looks.

And to tell you the truth JSR,I never read your tutorial. . .That I can remember. . .But you did definitely give me the epoxy idea from the many uses you use it for.

Also, nice birdy. Mine used to bite me, twas a viscious buzzard

I found you can use deodorant can as a rough mould for a piston,but don't expect miracles.Go for the Epoxy of Hot Glue gun method they both work great and are pretty cheap although the price of epoxy does add up,so do it first the right time!

This bird of mine can be a BIATCH!But then again she follows me around like a dog and cleans my hair etc ohh such a cute bird.

Nice Epoxy Box aswell JSR,I also got enough Gelatine powder to make about 20 or so liters of Shooting Gel so I should have some fun when I get this cannon back up and running.

I do like your design and such a nice piston.

One question i have is that did you use the same method of making the epoxy piston as a hot glue piston?

And also your pilot are can be a problem. (Its called a pool noodle )
Anyway i had the same setup as yours on my first and only pneumatic piston cannon. The problem was that it got kindof sucked into the pilot hole, therefore sealing it and the cannon didnt work. So i had to redo that and i fixed it. But when i used it, it was much better for me because the piston was able to slide easier. Anyway, this should work, just make sure you have the bumper (pool noodle) glued well so that it doesnt get sucked into your pilot hole.

I pretty used much the same method as making a hot glue piston.Lubed the mould and put some foil over the bottom to seal it mixed up a large batch of epoxy poured it in and left it for 24 hours and cracked it out of the mould with a few taps of a hammer,simple.

And thats the name a pool noodle!I'll have to look into that as I was hoping on that working well,trial and error I guess.

It weighs in at 125 grams or there abouts,still not light but better then the huge one I had before.

EDIT- You Can actually use a Room Deodoriser can as a piston,I used it as my first piston in my gun,have a look.Although its life wasn't very long mainly due to a lack of a bumper and the piston shat itself.Although I can't find a picture of it right now.It was a spray can that had a few wraps of tape around it and body filler to make the bottom flat and a glued on sealing face on it,worked fairly well.

Well who doesn't like a good looking piston?Haha yeh that's a nice looking bird,aren't they mean at times.My bird right now is complaining about not being let out of its cage.

Time to get to work on getting this piston and gun going well!

Yea my bird can be a real biatch to me. She made me bleed a couple of times and i punished her but if you annoy you she will bite back. Also she most of the time doesnt try to bite me when i pick her up while when others try she tries to bite them. So she loves me.

Anyway you should get that piston goin. We need to see some results and comparison to your old piston.
