recoil operated spud gun

everyone knows that spud guns generally have a lot of recoil.

has anyone ever thought of making a recoil operated semi auto spud gun? a drew out a diagram that i think would work (might upload it later) but i don't have the materials to make it.

if you are trying to put something between the gun and its stock that would use the energy of recoil to cycle the gun i must tell you that there were people who tried the same with firearms and it wasn't working well... the amount of energy that you could get out of this design would vary depending on such factors as your stance or pressure used... to tell you the truth I don't really know how well it would work with spudguns but I wasn't working well with firearms

In my opinion it would be much too complex and hard to make to EVER be feasible. Maybe with a spring powered co2 cartridge gun, but not for anyhting else(so far)

Look at the animation of how a blow-back paintball gun, like a spyder, works.



This uses the same air that is used to propel the paintball, to re-cock the bolt. However, this might not be what you're refering to.

Consider that in order to make a system that truly depended on recoil to reload each shot, you'd probably need ALOT of recoil to operate it. And if you had that much recoil to deal with, would you really want to fire it in semi, shot after shot?

Think about it this way; if you've ever shot a paintball gun like the oen above, you know how much they kick; now imagine how much MORE kick you'd be dealing with if you built that thing to spudgun size. You'd probably need a special recoil-absorbing mount or turret to put it on.

Come to think about it, that'd actually be pretty sweet... a 2.00 caliber blowback on a turret. hehe.

I know that one of the rifles competing with the M1 grand (I belive it was johnson something or other) It used the recoil from the barrel. The barrel acualy move back and forth. The gun did see limited action in ww2 however was unrealible. Espescialy with a bayonette.
Most guns today and in the past have been some sort of gas blow back system like Pinhead posted with the spyder. Relitivly simple in theory but I would think it would be quite something else to biuld with a potatoe cannon. Though, man, would it be sweet.
