homemade air setup.

hey i was wondering if anybody had a homemade air system complete with psi gauge and quick connect valve. i was thinking of making one out of 4 inch pipe.

ive made one it was a 1/4 hp electric motor driving an army surplus t-1 compressor pump
i had a female quick connect fitting on the resivor with a husky pressure gauge that i got at home depot\
the motor could only bring the pressure up to around 90 psi before it would stall out but still it could run an air nailer

i know other people on this site have made their own using fridge compressors

I wouldn't make it out of 4" pvc.

Sure would. And i believe you can get them for 20-30 dollars on ebay.

What's so unsafe about 4" pipe? Unless you did something stupid like using PVC (which he never said he would), the only con I can think of is that it would be heavier than an air comp. tank of the same size due to the insanely high safety factor you'd have (about 20 if it was SCH 40 steel). 4" pipe is easy to come by, and welding plates onto it isn't a very expensive prospect. Of course, if you're lucky enough to be able to get a larger air tank for $30, you might as well take that route instead.

Unless you're willing to make your own compressor, a few fridge compressors running in parallel are probably the best option for a spudder, as they increase the pressure generation capabilities.

I have an old scuba tank that I use..My luck it has npt so I can just go to the hardwear store and get the stuff I need. It works good. A little heavy but I can still lug it around. I was thinking of getting brackets for a back pack setup. :salute:

just wondering even if i did make one out of pvs it would be perfectly safe because it would only be prssurized to 60 psi and i wouldnt keep it presurized

my valve on my bb sniper is a blowgun connected to a peice of rifled brake line so im trying to make a portable air system to elimenate certain sqeaky things at night

You should look on Ebay you can find used oxygen tanks for sale .All you would have to do is rig it up so you can fill your chamber..Some tanks have the valve still on them. Those tanks can hold up to 6000 psi so even 150 psi is nothing. Its worth checking out anyway. I forgot to mention the oxygen tanks are aluminum so they should be easy to lug around. :salute:
