New here and looking for answers

Miniature guns are novelty custom, unique, and sometime downright crude! Common construction materials often include pill bottles or pens. Show us your work!

Hi all, sorry if people have already beat this to death but I have been looking for 2 days and have yet to find an answer.

I am building a totally mini combustion and I want it to not only look good but to work good as well.

I am using a toy guy as the housing and everthing is going to ge inside of it excaet for the cap of the bottly, which will mount just outside the back of the gun.

I am planning to use either a 100mL or a 200mL cough syrup bottle (as both will fit inside) but I don't know how long I should make the barrel....

Also, Is something like a 1/4 inch or 3/8 inch copper line any better than a pen tube?

If your going to enter it in the getto contest use the pen tube, if not I would go with the copper.

In the world of spuds, size matters to some extent, but really it depends on what you want to do with the gun.

At the risk of sounding rude, I just want to shoot stuff. if I could get something that shoots 30ft or so and has enough power to sting someone then that is perfect. Accuracy would be kind of nice as well.

Its just a toy for a big boy you know...

Is there an ideal C:B ratio for mini's?
If so then a person should easily be able to calculate an ideal barrel length for combustion chamber.

Am also considering using a meat thermometer as the barrel.

It is a very small diametered barrel but it houses a finish nail nicely. If you pull off the gauge part you are left with a flat base(same size as a pill bottle cover and a hollowed out center all the way to the end. Figured with the fat base it would give a nice seal against the inside of the pill bottle cover.

We were all learning about spud gunning at some point, and everyone on this site is still learning. so always ask if you dont understand something, or if you have a question that you cant find the answer for in search.

The usual c:b 1:1 is usually quite a good place to start, so just work out the volume of your chamber, then make the barrel the same volume. The meat thermometer sounds like a good idea for the barrel, maybe you could take a picture of it and show us.

Sir will do, I get called m'am enough as it is, because of my long hair

Perhaps take a picture of it next to something that will give me an idea of the size.
