semi auto

Hello, this is sort of a brain picking forum, so I need some suggestions.

History
I am recently new to the scene. I built a 2" barrel combustion spud gun that uses starting fluid as fuel.
also I built a 1" air gun that uses a 2 liter bottle as a reservoir (holds 800 psi before bursting) this is a similar in shape to paint ball gun w/ 2' long barrel.

Idea

I am interested in building a semi auto gun using a 1.5" barrel air or fuel (no hybrids yet). I want about a 2' long barrel and would like it to be able to be held like a paint ball gun if possible. Considering a piston valve but open to suggestions. other than that please point me in the right direction.
