A launcher that fires paintballs only - no. A launcher designed to be an antitank / antibunker weapon - maybe.

A lot of fields nowdays keep homemade stuff at home becuase if insurance reason. The best thing to do is to check with the field you plan on playing at and see what they tell you.

Answer: It entirely depends on the field. Some will be fine with anything that doesn't look too ramshackle, some will demand something that looks professional, some won't take any.

Of course, all will demand that it goes over a chrony.
Does that thing kinda look like a big cat to you?

On the fields that completely ban custom markers, you could try to build one that looks incredibly much like an official marker (possibly even using parts from markers on the outside), then I suppose you can sneak it in without letting the field know it's homemade.

They can't forbid what they don't know... ;)

in the US, if it's a organized field "NO PVC ALLOWED".. Otherwise check with the field

If your looking to play Scenario or any other woods-type paintball than most likely YES, so long as it chrono's fine and fires that speed consistently, and is not a hazard to other players, and most importantly yourself (this go's along with the "no-pvc" rule, which can be bent to accommodate designs that have taken safety into mind). Combustion's I can't see being let on any organized kind of field, unless you go to great extents to make it as consistent as the C3.

Speedball - No way, there would be no advantage, other than intimidation if your playing with n00bs. I would rather have a pump gun.
