due to my fearful parents i cant build launchers (still got one under my bed) i have got into paintball and want to buy an APEX barrel but am to cheap. so heres my idea, im going to put a peice of PCV (sch 80) as a barrel extenction but to give the paintball bit of a lift at the end by cutting the PVC extention in half. and yes there is some science to this. when a paintball is fired it builds a pressure wave in front of it, so by relieving the pressure above ( the lack of the top on the barrel) and keeping the pressure wave on the bottom the paintball should recieve a small push therefore arching up slightly resulting in an affect similar to a flatline or APEX barrel.

possibly, but I think it would be inconsistent. The flatline is actually a bent barrel and therefore is not "flat" and cannot be described as a linethat forces the PB to roll on the top of the barrel, creating spin, which then creates an area of low pressure on top of the paintball, which creates lift. This is known as the magnus effect, and probably wouldn't be THAT hard to reproduce.

That sucks about your parents.

The APEX has a rubber strip designed to put a backspin on the paintball using friction. The strip's height can be adjusted to change how much spin it imparts on the ball. The flat trajectory is the result of Bernoulli's Principle. I don't think your idea will work, it's not really changing the ball's behavior within the barrel.

il give it a shot, but im not expecting much if anything cause all it is is a 4 inch piece of 1" PCV. besides if it worked everyone would already be using it.

1'' is way to big.
3/4'' CPVC works well for paintballs. Just make sure it is CPVC.

EDIT:

i just re-read the first post... i did not realize you were using schedule 80.

How well does a paint ball fit in 1'' schedule 80?

What if you put a length of electrical tape down the inside of the barrel on the top. It will cause more friction and impart a slight spin

that would be pretty cool it if it works, but while the apex does make the paintballs go further they lose a lot velocity and don't break as much, just saying haha

ya it would be cool if it did work (havent tried it cause my parents dont like me shooting in the back yard) even just a little. if i doesnt work (most likely scenario) then il put a strip of electrical tape on the top of my barrel or just go back to the drawing board (in case you didnt noice i like to use brackets)
