hello spudfiles!
I have made 3 air guns, they all use a .5" barrel. i was wondering if anyone knows of a good 6mm (inner diameter) tubing or pipe, that would make a good small air gun barrel. all help is appreciated.

I'm sorry, do NOT order the barrel I suggested. I ordered one and its too tight
when I put BBs in, its literally an air tight seal for low pressure

You can purchase aftermarket barrels for airsot guns. They can run between $18-$50, but are straight, sight, and sometimes coated on the inside.

What brand and weight of bbs are you using?Lockednloaded wrote:I'm sorry, do NOT order the barrel I suggested. I ordered one and its too tight

Also do they go all the way through the barrel when you feed air through?
Side note: A lot of people will tell you to use brakeline, or other tubing what really the stuff is to loose of a fit.. I wouldnt get anything over 6.14mm otherwise you are losing too much power from blowby..
honestly, I know it sucks for us DIY people, but the suggested bet would be buying an aftermarket airsoft barrel...

all of the brands are honestly very similar, the only one that is exponentially better than all the rest is DB customs, and EDGI which cost is respectfully higher.

they do not go through the barrel at all, they are crossman .12g BBs, 10,000 pack. the barrel is 6mm ID, 7mm OD copper tubing from mcmaster-carr

crossman .12g bbs are not of good quality and are oversided a huge portion of the time, they typically dont go through a polishing action which actually reduces the size to under 6mm (5.95-5.98 commonly)Lockednloaded wrote:they do not go through the barrel at all, they are crossman .12g BBs, 10,000 pack. the barrel is 6mm ID, 7mm OD copper tubing from mcmaster-carr
any .12g bb is typically not held to high standards because it is for low quality guns with over-sized barrels (think walmart crossman clear airsoft guns).
Crosman pellet guns are not bad, but their airsoft lineup is known to be horrible. Their .20g bbs are not horrible, but from my experience and the experience of almost every airsofter out there, is that if its .12, its not worth a damn. .12 are oversized, too light (get effected by wind easily) and are not meant for anything tight fitting.
So perhaps that 6mm tubing you got is undersized, perhaps it wont work even with higher quality BBs, who knows... but one thing is for sure, saying that the pipe wont work because you used cheap .12g BBs is not a legit test...
and if you don't beleive my opinion on .12g bbs, be sure to go to any airsoft forum online and ask about them and you will find out how crappy they are.
P.S you will also probably be labeled as a noob or a troll, because nobody.. and i mean nobody uses .12g bbs in any legit, half decent airsoft gun/ airsoft barrel..

I'll try some higher quality BBs soon, but I'll probable just use this barrel for .22 flared pellets

Sounds good, evike has some decent quality cheap bbs (matrix brand), they are not amazing by any means, but they are mid ranged quality bbs and will be a good test (they fit in my 6.03mm tightbore and never had a jam..)Lockednloaded wrote:I'll try some higher quality BBs soon, but I'll probable just use this barrel for .22 flared pellets

I probably won't be able to find a good name brand cheap, but is it generally the heavier the BB, the higher the quality?

generally speaking, there are a few brands out there that sell .20g bbs that are absolute crap..Lockednloaded wrote:I probably won't be able to find a good name brand cheap, but is it generally the heavier the BB, the higher the quality?
I was late to a game one time and I had no choice but to get some crossman .20g bbs from the store... it was 5000bbs, I used them all up and had about 6 jams, thankfully I was using my p90 which makes it very easy to get access to the barrel/hopup.
So if it would be an okay test for your barrel, but still not a complete test obviously...
Side note, I have for years been eying this part up:
2153T37 on mcmaster... its carbon fiber tubing that is 5.9mm to 6.01mm inner diameter, 4 feet for $27.. honestly accuracy doesn't seem to improve over a 600mm long barrel (from personal experience).. so thats 2 long barrels or 3-5 barrels of various sizes... but who knows if it is too tight, I was thinking of it for a sniper project that would only use super high-grade bbs.. But who knows...

I'll be with some un-regged Co2 I will be able to punch some BBs through, I just ran out though, so it'll have to wait. The good thing is that the barrel is rated to somewhere around 2000psi (1mm walls)
