I was checking my youtube channel and noted another QDV animation in the related videos. It is a bolt action QDV with a spring to pull it open (the spring isn't shown). It lacks a bumper though.
I like the animation. It shows the action of the piston and projectile as the valve cracks open.
With a little variation this could be adapted to make a breech loading bolt action cannon.

Thats a pretty good idea I think you should make it.
It would be alot more realistic and it would have great performance

How is the QDV opened if it is a balanced valve?
I love lamp

It is pulled open. The spring between the bolt and spool is not shown.

Eh. Seems complicated with not much benefit.
To those confused, it is an extension spring not compression behind the piston.

I accidently did that once with my ABS cannon. It was leaking. I tried to move the piston just a little to try to get a better seal and pushed it too far in.. The pressure was low, but the piston still made good distance.

The problem with that is the difficulty of making a piston. Would be solved by putting the o rings on the gun instead of the piston. Then could use something like a piece of PVC pipe as the piston.

I've been banging on about that for yearsHigh-PSI wrote:How about making the projectile the piston (obviously reversed direction). That would be even simpler.

On another note, I hear rumours of a spring-loaded QDV concept that might be published soon

Taken from the launcher design thread.
And yes, this post was pointless.
Edit: note 6 cases already ejected, yet the magazine is still more or less full?

That's 65% more bullet PER BULLETal-xg wrote:"We fire the WHOLE bullet"
Zeus, I don't think even the caseless G11 had that cyclic rate

Cool. I have wondered why no-one has done that as of yet.jackssmirkingrevenge wrote:I've been banging on about that for yearsHigh-PSI wrote:How about making the projectile the piston (obviously reversed direction). That would be even simpler.

Hmm, it must be that since I can machine my own parts, making custom projectiles is no big deal.........
I like the O-rings in the barrel idea.
