I am leaning toward an aluminum tube with an exact 2 1/2" ID. I want to shoot tennis balls, and last time I checked 2 1/2" SCH40, it was a REALLY tight fit. I think 2 1/2" ID might be perfect for a tennis ball. What other ammo choices are you guys aware of for 2 1/2"? What size is needed for soda cans and little soup cans and stuff like that?

Soda cans might be a tad too large for 2.5" ID. I don't have one around to measure at the moment, but a little googling turns up 2.6" as the OD.

Regular soda cans from the machine work well but it's alot of force against a piston I was going to but don't wanna destroy my piston

What are you using to shoot them anyways?

The inner diameter of most pvc 2 1/2 inch schedule 40 is 2.445 inches. I dont think a soda can will fit if the o.d. of one is 2.6! How about a pool/billiard ball? I bet one of them would leave a mark!!! :D :D

I have considered billiards balls. They are 2 1/4" dia and 2 1/4" ID tube is available. It would have to be honed to fit probably and thats a pain in the ass.

2-3/4" (2.75) tail pipe has an ID of 2-5/8ths (2.625)

Old tennis balls will roll in with ease, new ones (fuzzier) will have to be gently pushed. Soda/beer cans are an absolute perfect fit. I fill up empty soda/beer cans with water or concrete. Can get them to go 1/4 to half mile depending on weight. (Private land, open field, no aircraft in the area)

2.75 pipe costs about $20 for ten feet, and is available at every auto parts store in america.

I have built several cannons/mortars/bazookas using it.
