revolver?

I'm trying to make a nerf revolver. I opened up one of my friends real nerf and I tried to copy it. Is there any way this is going to work? I'll have a pin that just touches the pvc so when you move the pin backwards it spins and when you move forward again it keeps going the same direction. I'm going to cut out a circle of wood that goes over this piece of pvc and then drill holes in it for the nerfs. Unfortunately, I had to scrape that all out with a drill press so it doesn't look great.

thats pretty good for using a drill press and you might have to make some gears if you can i dont know if this is possible seeing how nerf is using thin plastic not huge pvc it is probly nearly impossible to make anything that thick of a gear or a notch device out of plasict...now metal if your dad owns a shop like mine than i could make some gears out of metal easily but you have to have access to certain tools

Gears are the whole point of making it revolve without it moving back wards.

k so why do I need gears though? do you get how this design works? The nerf gun i looked at didn't have any gears. I don't know how a real revolver works just a nerf revolver so maybe that doesn't help.

yea you do not need gears you need a motar you see the barrel will be attached to th motor making the revolve around the chambers or loading mechanism.

I' pretty sure that real-steel (so to speak) revolvers rotate the cylider by pushing on something vaugly resebling a gear (with 6 or so asymetrical teeth) at the rear of the cylider.
This is combined with a lock pin to precisly align the cylinder.

...but my memory is hazy in this regard.

Anyway, the meathod you show reminds me of a certain russian (I think) revolver. (sorry, I don't remember the name)

this may work crude mechanic aren't very reliable, nice job so far
you need a slick and very strudy pin that slides on a strudy rail so it wont sway side to side,
to improve what you got now I would cut all the way though sand the edges, and sleeve this over some smaller pipe and glue, this way the grooves are deeper, more smooth, and clean

It's not gears, it's called a "ratchet and pawl". It works off of the trigger, with a lever or two. The "pawl" only moves enough to advance the rotary mag. to the next shot. This is how a real revolver works. If ya wanna better look at this system just get a dollar store cap gun revolver and take that apart.

But maybe that's not the design yer lookin' for.

your right about no gears, but this system that keep it real is trying to make is not ratchet and paw (thanks your the new vocab), and cap guns are misleading since the spokes are in the center rather than the edge of the cylender, they do it to fit more caps I think

thanks for the help. That clears some stuff up. I think I will try drilling all the way through and sleeve it inside so the grooves are deeper. I tested it and it kinda works. I think if i make it a little more smooth it should be fine.
