the majority of my first cannons employed 2" barrels, and I often ran out of potatoes so i tried some pretty neat stuff.

Dannon Yogurt cups. activia.
I cant say how neat these are. You can shoot them full of yogurt with the top frame cut off to make a mess, or pack them full of rocks, baby powder, baking soda, etc.

Lemons.
Lemons with a cross slice in the top to release juice have been found to occasionally go further than spuds.

Guava.
If you have a guava tree, and hate guava, like me, these are actually better in potatoes in my opinion. They may not be crispy, but are actually denser with a harder shell, and also are filled with pink juice so they are very visible when they explode.

pvc rockets with rope.
I know currently Joel has the how to on pvc rockets at the sgt, but tying long amounts of string to them is pretty neat also. you can shoot it through stuff and pull it back, or tie it to other stuff like lit m80s NOTE: make sure you lay the string back and forth the long way and not in a coil, or else it will get tangled.

Anything else with string.
the dannon yogurt cups are awesome, considering you can stick a hole in the bottom of them, stick a bolt through, tie a string to the bolt, and then attach a nut securing the string. You can fill these full of baby powder and tie the string down and watch them explode in the air. I know this is a poor substitute for burst disks, but this is before I knew how to make those.

Mildly functional net device.
I rolled up wet newspaper wrapped in duct tape into a two inch bundle with string in the middle, twice. I then tied the two together, and tied all sort of loops to the string tieing the two slugs together. I kept it in a section of 2" unused pvc. so it would not get tangled.

Streamers and socks.
I doubt you have tried putting old socks over the end of your barrel with a spud in it, because it's pretty neat. much better visibility if you can't see your spud. If you have ever bought pears, you would know how they sometimes come in those plastic nets. sometimes. those are bright colored and also cool to stick on the end of your barrel.

im sure there is a plethora of other crazy stuff in this forum.

I suggest you remove the part about launching fireworks, other than that, its all good, and welcome to the forums, and hope you stay.

Likewise about the fireworks but I find just a heap of BB's makes for cool effects.
