Its something like a valve that is shut off, keeping the air in one chanmber, and when a button is pressed it opens quick and releases the air, someone told me thier about 200fps faster than a ball valve, but I don't know much about them either. I've built one Spud gun and working on my second one, this one is pneumatic so I too need more info on Valves.

I geuss you tenicaly could build a soleniod valve (aka. "sprinkler valve"), but what's the point? They have a relitivly inferior flow path... typicaly, people buy them finished, and sometimes <a href="http://www.spudfiles.com/forums/viewtop ... nematicaly mod them

As to their opperation, they are essentialy a (barrel sealing) diaphram valve. (same types of forces as a barrel sealing piston valve). A nice explanation of piston valves can be found here. Making these yourself means that they'll be significantly cheaper than a equivelent sprinkler valve.
