Another Triggered Burst Disc Gun

Basically a version of Gort's but much less complicated. The trigger is simply a sharpened dowel which an acrylic cube on the back, to push. A piece of brakeline goes into the chamber and the dowel rides inside of it.
The barrel is about 4 feet of 1 1/2" ABS, the union is 1 1/2," the chamber is 2 1/2 feet of 2 1/2" PVC.

Yeah, kinda sloppy with the primer, but whatever. I could paint it, seeing as I do literally nothing all day, but I like sitting around without doing anything.

Also, how do you seal the wooden dowel aganst the brake line, Is it just that tight of a fit?

See the little circle with a bunch of JB weld on it? It's inside the gun, behind the dowel. That's a rubber washer. The spring pushes the whole assembly (except for the brakeline) back, so the washer seals against the brakeline, except when firing.
I usually use aluminum foil or mylar as burst discs.

Simple, but it works. It's the most pwerful gun that I've made, other than my hybrids and my huge combustion. The chamber is less than half the size of my 2" piston gun, but the 1 1/2" burst disc outperforms it very easily, even with a barrel 3 feet shorter.

I've been trying to figure out a way to do this easily, but haven't built anything because the pressure differential trigger allows you to use a higher pressure than the disks would normally allow.

What kind of pressure do you normally run it at? What kind of ammo do you usually shoot, and what kind of muzzle energy is it getting?

A mylar disc bursts at around 90 psi, so I usually pressurize it to 80 or 85 psi. I usually shoor sharpened and rifled potato bullets (it really does help a lot), and the only way I know it's hit is hearing the BONGGGG sound it makes when it hits the sheet metal roof of the high school (about 200-250 yards). Not sure on the muzzle velocity or energy, but I'd say it's in the 400-500 fps range, with an 8 foot barrel (which I just remebered I had).

I've never really shot mine for distance, but I bet it could shoot over 500 yards with some proper ammo and the 12' barrel. Have you done any damage shots yet?

Nope, because my compressor is about 50 feet from my backyard, where the damage occurs. Using a bike pump isn't too tedious, but it gets anooying, because the rubber washer has sprung a leak.
