Somehow I have my doubts the damage to the car was with a spring opened ball valve. A little more pressure and valve speed would be needed for that.

With say 800 psi on tap and a big enough spring to open a ball valve the same size as the barrel, more than possible.

hmm that's probably because he used and air operated (actuated via an air cylinder) ball valve as the pilot valve

The QDV also has no plumbing for pressure loss between the chamber and valve.
You are correct, sir. The damage was caused by a lowly Piston valve.
