Just received it in the mail today so really excited on startinga build, I am a new and am unable to just look at a QEV identify which port is which!!

The only Info I can find jhas specs for the QEV but doesn't say what connection iswhat , if it is stood up looking like a mushroom (if that makes sense) it has the horizontal port labelled 2 and the one coming out the top as 3.

Looking down 3 and also what I assume is 1 you can see a grill and between these looks to be a rubber diaphram,it would seem to be closer to the grill of port 3 than port what I assume is port1, but it is not easy to see.

Also looking into port 2 there seems to just be a cylinder that looks to be part of the casting

So any help appreciated, thanks

Port 2 is 'chamber'

Blow air into port 2 (using your lungs) - note where the air comes out of the valve - that's your barrel port

I checked it, turns out that if I blow into port 2 it comes out of 3, so that's the barrel then?

I found this data sheet on the valve, not doubting you but can anyone verify from the schematic diagram what each port is -

This may sound daft as I have just made a QEV gun, but can someone just remind me what goes to each of the ports

1 - small air tank sized per shot?
2 - air supply?
3 - barrel?


If I choose not to use 2 tanks and just one main tank what goes on Port 1? Sorry for dumb questions but sometimes I find it hard to get my head around it all and I do understand its second nature to most on here.

it simple, unmount the qev and see it with your own eyes. If you know how it works, you will be able to figure it out
if want only 1 main air tank with multiple shoots, you must think what pilot you will use and you will need a leek on the diafragm(*). I suggest to go with 2 air tanks,
On port 1(or 2. 0r 3) it goes the pilot valve. iT would be better if "Jackasaajsdfks" Could direct you to a schematic on this forum.

Port 2 is chamber (short lenght of pipe/fitting that stores air for each shot)
Port 3 is barrel
Port 1 in piloting side (that's where you put the piloting valve)

Clearer now ??


Even if you want a single shot gun it's the same. For a multishot/semiauto you just need a 3 way valve as the piloting valve, while for a single shot gun you might as well use something as basic as a ball valve or a blowgun

I used a QEV, with a slide valve and a small chamber that held enough for each shot, think I made it too big as I only got one reasonable shot from it. I was disappointed by its power but that could have been a lot of things. My main aim for this gun is power and then after that I may attempt to add a magazine with a simp!e vertical tube if I use ball bearings. I could get adventurous if all goes well and make a magazine and use bolt shaped ammo.

My barrel is meant to be 12mm and my ammo 12mm but the barrel is slightly too small, what is the minimum barrel length that would not loose too much performance. I have a nice valve I can use otherwise I will get a quality slide valve.

Just want to get the QEV connections verified as I would like to make this with minimum number of fittings to try and keep it looking nice, although the QEV is pig ugly (no offense to pigs :))

Can I fill through the pilot and also dump through the pilot when i want to fire? As per any other qev?

Got all my connexctio s sorted, not ideally positioned but need a e few parts such as tees etc. Think I used a far too big cylinder, but after watching the guy on YouTube who had the same QEV as me I decided to copy as they had awesome power.

Tempory plan is just to use the screw on paintball bottle and turn off when gun is full enough, so did this and it ended up at around 250psi one time, it xcertainly has some power!!!

Got my 12mm (just under 0.50" to you guys!:) few parts short for my guuun so it was a bit of a jhash together, mainly for testing. I used the Parker 3/4" QEV along with an unknown sized tank constructed of 42mm copper tube, I just made it the length of pipe I was given, I estimate it to be 65cm long. Therefore way larger than required. The barrel was supposed to be 12mm i.d. but I drilled it out with a 12mm drill. My slingshot BBs are now a perfect fit, I did a bit of testing around 120-140psi and all was fine. Ramped it up eventually to 275psi (too scared to go higher). It doesn't look pretty butm am pleased with rthe power ;) The photos show how the Tins and block was arranged and it was taken from point blank, but still I am really pleased and it has given me the incentive to use high pressure components and use a few more psi, not sure how much the new barrel helped as it has almost doubled in length, so I guess all the excess air I am using has been working for longer.


Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way, couldn't have done it without your help.

I hope with a few tweaks I can run it off workshop air at least for practise and mucking about as local refill place is 15miles.

So am I! Really pleased and surprised by its power just need to tidy up a few bits and reduce the size of the air cylinder. Then its onto getting a magazine/ammo supply tube working. May try the blow valve rather than the slide valve as a trigger.

Can anyone tell me with a QEV and air tank oncce it is fired it will keep letting air out until it is empty? But if I had a regulator between paintball tank and the QEV and kept it connected would it refill and basically reset the QEV so that it is balanced and not let any more air out? Are any regulators available to reduce the pressure of the air supply? Had a guy offer to mod mine for about $30 to any pressure I want should I take him up on his offer? I have seen the guerilla ELOP but it seems lime it willlp only go on a 4500 tank. Are 3000 and 4500 tanks different fittings?

A QEV will not close until the pilot valve is closed.

If you have your air supply permanently connected to your QEV, you are not only reducing the efficiency of the valve by lengthening its opening time, but also dumping your air supply while the pilot is open. This is why we like 3-way valves, because they open the pilot and shut off the air supply at the same time

Don't allow anyone who isn't qualified tamper with your high pressure air components.

I looked into the Palmer pursuit regulators but as I am in Uk they work out costly to import, but I have found a paintball regulator which will fit onto the paintball tank and is adjustable.

I would like to make a gun that uses the bottle to attach a stock to, my dream would be an Airforce condor style but I doubt the reality will look half as good as the vision I have in my head.

Just an update to my experimental gun before I actually put the ideas into something resembling a gun. Initially my magazine, basically a tube feeding ammo into the barrel was working fine. Since up the pressure i was having more than one bearing firing per shot, this may also be due to my secondary tank being excessively and alot more air than required to fire the ball bearing.

My solution to this is a small solenoid on the T fitting that the ammo storage tube connects to it allows one shot to drop into the barrel (which is then held in place by magnet) the solenoid pin then pushes back blocking off the rest of the ammo.

I have only bench tested this and plan to use a magnet on the slide valve and reed switch so when the slide valve is in the air refill position it also reloads the ammo ready for the next shot.

I know this is very basic and probably not the best solution compared to many of the guns and solutions on here, but I am just a newb at this and hopefully it will work and meet my requirements :)

btw the Parker qev is holding up with 350psi and once (accidentally with alot more!) the weekest point seems to be the slide valve as I have had the o rings push out and jamming a few times. Is is just a cheapo ebay Chinese one, without using high pressures it has worked great and allows the qev pilot air to be released rapidly.
