Inspiration was nothing more than "I have a lot of DVD/BlueRays and need a good place to store 'em.... I'm not a good enough woodworker to make something *nice* so it has to be something reasonably simple.... Hmmmm.... Wife is a Dr. Who fan.... A TARDIS is about the right size and would be easy-ish to make. And I would score major nerd points with the wife!"

So, no... I'm not really much of a Dr. Who fan (but my wife is).

The colour looks a bit light to me. Apparently the "official" TARDIS colour is Pantone 2955C, which is actually quite a lot lighter than a real police box, like this one :
